Deep Brain Stimulation system
Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) system, commonly known as a brain pacemaker, has been clinically utilized over the past 20 years. Brain pacemakers have been approved in succession by the US FDA for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor, dystonia, obsessive-compulsive disorder and other diseases. The development of the PINS brain pacemaker started from the year 2000. In 2009, the PINS brain pacemaker was successfully used in its first clinical trial. In 2014, the registration certificate for a full series of brain pacemaker products was obtained. As of October 2016, there has been over 100 PINS’ clinical cooperation centers established, and there have been more than 5000 cumulative implantation cases nationally. In the same month, PINS became the first Chinese manufacturer of pacemaker to obtain a CE mark. After marketing for over three years, PINS brain pacemaker has successfully helped an extensive number of patients with movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, greatly improving patients’ life quality and viability.
System composition
Deep Brain Stimulation system includes in vivo implantable products and in vitro products. In vivo products include an electrode, an extension and a pulse generator. In vitro products include a patient controller, a physician programmer, an in vitro charger and a test stimulator.
Electrical pulses emitted by the pulse generator are transmitted by the extension to the electrode and released into the corresponding intracerebral nuclei to inhibit abnormal neural discharging and thus control movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease for restoring patients’ normal motion.
